To book your place\, please email TABI’s Secretary\, Pengwen\, at secretary@tabi.org.uk and she will add your email to the mailing list.  \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nA couple of years ago I stumbled across the works of Ioan Petru Culianu\, a brilliant scholar of religion\,gnosticism and Renaissance magic. He defined magic as “a science of imagination\, a technology of themind to investigate the world and ourselves\, a mode of operating to shape reality itself”. \n\n\n\nThe word ‘magic’ comes from the Old Persian\, through the Greeks\, who borrowed the word μαγεια(mageia) to refer to the science and religion of the ‘Magians’\, the Zoroastrian ‘Wise Men’\, and the Greekshad an enormous respect for their special powers\, beginning with dream interpretation.The Indo-European root of the word ‘magic’ means ‘to be able\, to have power’\, and it is still reflected inthe words ‘may’ and ‘might’. Through the Greek\, we get to makhos\, meaning ‘device’\, that became ourmodern ‘machine’ and ‘mechanism’. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nIn other words\, ‘magic’ and ‘machine’ come from the same root defining the concept of creating andmanipulating reality through the power of imagination. That is incredibly intriguing! \n\n\n\nInspired by Culianu’s work\, I started to experiment with different media looking for a form ofcommunication able to enhance the visionary power of our imagination and therefore our magic! Aftertwo years of research and study\, I developed a new approach to tarot and created my own “alchemical”language mixing images\, symbols and words\, culminating in a multimedia project: The Book ofShadows: An Alchemist’s Story. \n\n\n\nIn this Virtual Webinar – Workshop I would like to share the key points of my studies on therelationship between magic\, imagination and Tarot. We will explore the language of magic from ancientbooks to modern grimoires\, discovering the mystery and beauty of iconic tomes such as the VoynichManuscript\, Leonardo da Vinci’s codes\, the Codex Seraphinianus\, the Malleus Maleficarum\, etc. TheWorkshop will culminate with analising Tarot as a special magic language with its symbols\, images andmeanings. It is all too human to concentrate on our joyful relationships and avoid the difficult ones\, yet sometimes it is those tough relationships that offer us the greatest scope for personal growth and understanding. How can the tarot help us to recognize the lessons that a relationship has to teach us and how can we interpret its message?  \n\n\n\n‘In this talk Jane Struthers will look at the karmic implications of relationships through the lens of the tarot\, using new spreads that have been specially developed to explore this very sensitive area of life.’This talk is open to everyone!
