I first noticed this deck when Johanna from Northern Lights Tarot posted an image of one of the cards while the deck was still in development in 2022. The art by Yael depicted in the card, Chthonic, totally grabbed my attention. It was immediately mysterious and captivating to my mind’s eye and stirred something deeper. I sensed the spirit, Persephone, a strange, alluring underworld, sensual experiences, and ancestral tribal connection of birth and rebirth through life’s powerful feminine waters.  Then I read Daven’s words, her poetic message of the Chthonic feminine being, mesmerising, powerful, and dancing with ecstasy. I was taken aback. This was a real ‘wow’ moment for me; I realised this is not just an oracle deck; there is a deeper essence here and something to be learned, something to bathe in!

The cards of the Yin Oracle Deck are not just pieces of art; they are gateways to self-discovery and healing. In the card Grounding, a powerful female figure stands tall, radiating waves of energy. The accompanying message, “Come in the deep quiet of the earth…” Invites you to embrace your true self and find solace in the deck’s wisdom. It’s a journey of understanding, connection, and growth.

Each card in this deck carries a profound message, not just a lesson, but a way to express your own story when words fail. There’s a delicate balance of gentleness and power in each card. As I explored the deck, I couldn’t help but feel the love and care that went into its creation. It’s as if Daven understands us, cares for us, and wants to share her healing love. The deck is a celebration of the watery feminine mysteries, a journey that resonates deeply with your soul.

The deck comes in a sturdy, beautifully illustrated box. It contains 58 cards and a leaflet-style pamphlet that folds open to inform you about The Power of the Yin Oracle. With its lovely illustrations, the pamphlet provides brief, simple, yet impactful descriptions of the groupings of the cards within the deck. The groupings are like descriptive aspects of the endurance of life in the feminine form. It is an understanding of this life in the now, the centre of your spiral as the weather pattern of events cycle around you. Some of the deck’s group sets describe things in concrete terms too. A good example is the set The Guardians of the Yin. It reminds us of the importance of protecting ourselves, as Yin energy, although powerful, can also be vulnerable. These cards indicate the areas of protection with their titles and first line: ‘Non-Negotiables’ “This is where you draw the line”, ‘Your Integrity’ “This is your intricate and evolving truth…”, ‘Your Voice’ “To speak and be heard…”, and ‘Your Vow’ “Your soul is asking you for a vow…”.

There is a long, powerful back story to the Yin Oracle. Daven is an energy healer with 25 years of experience. She has facilitated women’s healing journeys by helping them embrace their feminine essence in the water of sexual cycles through an ongoing process of healing and growth, in the ownership and strength of your Yin, knowing the power of your yoni, and cleansing your precious bodily fluids. The Power of the Yin Oracle is an important extension of Daven’s lifelong pursuit and mission to support women, understand their bodies, and improve their lives.

Daven and Yael, whose creative energies synergistically created this deck, are both strong women yet have gentle, loving, motherly natures. Both raised their children in expansive thinking practices, fully acknowledging the feminine side, welcoming the beauty, power, and resourcefulness, and knowing that only as a wholly integrated being can you be your authentic self. Consider the card True Yang; it shows a focused, determined woman drawing a bow in a hunting pose. The art on this card is an excerpt from Yael’s life, where she spent years hunting with a bow. Yael describes the inspiration for this art: while pregnant with her daughter, they were sustained throughout the pregnancy by the meat from the hunt. In appreciation of the sustenance received, Yael gave her daughter the middle name Ursa.

Being male as I am, it may seem odd to be reviewing a deck so focused on the feminine realm. The fact is I find balance in exploring and understanding the Yin through my exploration of Daven’s Oracle deck. She recognises the importance of a merged balance of Yin and Yang energy in us all. In that sense, I feel this deck could assist men in learning to understand the women in their lives and how they are essential aspects of themselves. I feel that the deck may also benefit young people’s education in appreciating their spiritual feminine aspects.

I have found the Yin Oracle to be highly versatile, too. When conducting Tarot readings, I incorporate The Power of the Yin cards into the reading and feel that they extend and amplify the overall message to the querent very well. Currently, I am using the Power of the Yin in conjunction with The Muse Tarot, I feel that both decks are wonderfully complimentary in providing useful advice to the querent’s questions within the reading space.
