The 2027 Lunar and Seasonal Planner written by Stacey Demarco is a beautifully designed and considered diary, bringing together information about the seasons and lunar cycles to help you map the direction of your year ahead. The content is comprehensive and instructive. Each month there is a page dedicated to writing your intentions, which I appreciate, as it is good to take stock of what goals need revising each month. Most months have a further page on a God or Goddess, including an activity you can do to channel their energy. For example, Venus is the Goddess of February and so the task is to create a Love Goddess Vision Board for yourself which can be used to cultivate self love or attract love into your life.

I like that there are also pages dedicated to the Wheel of the Year, indicating when the Witch’s sabbats or holidays land, and helping those interested in witchcraft to incorporate rituals to celebrate the cycles of the seasons. Mabon, for instance, is the Autumn Equinox, and the diary suggests to focus on balance rituals, by creating talismans or feeding your ‘living altar’ as a way to celebrate this part of the wheel. There is also a notes section for you to jot down your thoughts at the time.

The four seasons also have double pages dedicated to them, including actions like The Sensual Spring Ritual which helps you to consider how to manifest new beginnings. The activity includes collecting flower petals, native seeds or herbs, seven coins and a small green candle, and speaking a blessing out loud. I like that there are plenty of rituals and spells to try throughout the planner, as at every moment, there is an opportunity to appreciate where you are in the year, and to make small changes. It is also a fun way to learn some new practices related to nature, and the ingredients for most of the activities are affordable or readily available.

I love this planner, and will use it at home for my creative and tarot practice as I feel it is more of a personal rather than work diary. It is very functional – because it is spiral bound it lays flat, and has pockets for keeping notes and a ribbon. Each day has generous space for writing notes, and I think I will use mine for card of the day readings, or writing down what rituals I tried from the planner and my observations on the effect. The format is one week to two pages, and the size with cover is about as large as an exercise book, which may make it most suited to staying on your desk rather than carrying around.

The design of the diary is very colourful, each month has a different coloured border and there are large format colour images throughout. The cover art is bursting with flowers and animals and is designed by Kinga Britschgi who is known for her quirky magic realist digital collages. The only comment I would make about this cover is that it doesn’t actually represent nature as experienced in the Southern Hemisphere – it has deers, hedgehogs and moles. I am based in Australia and as a diary for this part of the world I would expect some New Zealand Kiwis, Tasmanian devils, sugar gliders or cockatoos! However, aside from this, I do appreciate that Rockpool publishes diaries for this part of the world so that the seasonal information aligns with what we actually experience here (no snow in December that’s for sure).

This would be a wonderful diary for people interested in global folklore, witches, and magic, and would easily work for noting oracle or tarot card of the day readings. It has an excellent blend of introductory pages to get you attuned to how to use moon cycles and to explain what spellcraft is. There are also motivational quotes sprinkled in the diary pages and the moon cycles are written every day, with short notes on how that energy may impact on you.
