Tabi Training

TABI has been training members in how to use the Tarot since 2001. Our Beginner’s course has recently been revisited and now runs for 8 weeks using the Joan Bunning online book Learning the Tarot, our talented online Trainers, and the TABI forum.

To be eligible for the training you need to be a TABI member (£20 annually) and be at a beginner level with Tarot.

Beginners Course

Week 1    Introduction: Structure and format of the course, and expectations of students. Brief history of the cards, how they’re used, misconceptions and myths, basic ‘care and feeding’ of yourself and your deck.
Week 2    The Major Arcana: Introduction to the cycle of the major cards. Similarities, progression, Tarot tableau and its meaning. How to think of the Majors when they appear in a reading.
Week 3    The Minor Arcana:  Introduction to the suits of the minor cards. Meanings of suits, numbers, directions. Similarities and differences in images. How to approach the ‘story’ of the Minors in a reading.
Week 4    The Spread: The different kinds of spreads one can use for a reading. Standard ones, nonstandard ones, where to find new and interesting spreads, how to think about creating your own.
Week 5    Reading the cards I: How you or your client can formulate an effective question. How to prepare to give a reading. The reading process. How to work with your client. Reading ethics.
Week 6    How to work with Court Cards:  Different ways to interpret court cards. How to effectively use court cards in a reading.
Week 7    Reading the cards II: How to create a meaningful and useful reading from the cards in the spread, including interpreting reversed cards. How to advise your clients.
Week 8    Review, conclusion, and next steps: Summing up the past seven weeks, final thoughts, any topics the students would like to discuss or review, ideas and suggestions for future learning.

The Beginners course for 2024 will run from January 14th – March 10th and from August 5th – September 29th.

Intermediate Training

Our Intermediate level training course will build on the knowledge of the Beginner’s course and will include the following modules over an 8 week period, combining TABI trainer expertise and our world-renowned TABI forum.

To be able to join our intermediate course, you need to have a working knowledge of the topics covered in the beginners course or to have successfully completed the beginner’s course.

Week 1 – Introduction to the course
Week 2 – Astrology Majors: Taking a deep dive into the astrological correspondences with the Tarot Majors.
Week 3 – Astrology Minors/Decans: Looking at the 36 zodiac decans and how these correspond to the Minors in the Tarot.
Week 4 – Tableau readings: Looking at the Tableau spread and how to navigate larger readings.
Week 5 – Kabbalah/Tree of life: Taking a deep dive into the Kabbalah and how this corresponds to the Tarot cards with an introduction to the Tree of Life spread.
Week 6 – The Opening of the Key: Getting a feel for complicated Tarot spreads by looking at the Golden Dawn technique – the Opening of the Key.
Week 7 – Exploring the Marseille Tarot.
Week 8 – Next Steps: Reading and mixing it up with other decks.

The Intermediate course for 2024 will run from April 8th – June 4th and October 7th – December 1st.
