Deck Review: Faerie Pathways Oracle

The Faerie Pathways Oracle is an impressive deck with 70 cards of inspirational keywords organized in alphabetical order from Abundance to Wonder. And it is indeed a wonder. The artwork by creator Paulina Fae is so rich with detail and symbolic flourishes, it brings to life a vivid assortment of faerie guides to help light the pathway ahead.

A Wonderland from A to W

The deck is nicely packaged in a sturdy two-piece box that shows the Align card on the front cover. Inside, the 70 oracle cards are accompanied by an 84-page guidebook that includes meanings for each card and suggested spreads. The spreads include a daily card pull; a 4-card Fairy Ring Spread that focuses on new inspirations and perspectives; and a 5-card Faerie Lantern spread that deals with awakenings, guidance, and blessings.

The oracle cards depict faerie guardians to help inspire self-enrichment, and the sheer volume of cards means the inspiration given is very specific. For instance, there isn’t just one card to represent Change, there are many cards, including Breakthrough, Grow, Metamorphosis, and Reinvention.

Intricate Artwork Sets This Deck Apart

The artwork is elaborately detailed to great effect. There’s so much depth within each image. Take, for instance, the card for Expression, which shows a young faerie surrounded by dolls and holding an ornate clock adorned with hearts and bows. Then look closer and you can see there’s a frog in the young faerie’s hair, and what appears to be a globe beneath her is actually the body of a snail who has turned itself into a mode of transportation. Also, the snail is wearing spectacles. There’s more, but I’m stopping the description here!

The color choices for this deck range from pale shades of peach and green, such as the cards for Align and Balance, to livelier hues, including the orange and yellow found on Metamorphosis and Passion, and the ocean blue of the Energy card.

Bonus Points for a Cat Card

This deck includes the wonderful Gratitude card, which shows a winged faerie hugging an orangish cat with tiger stripes. They’re sitting together on top of toad stools with their heads inclined toward each other. (Anyone who has ever parented a cat will tell you that it’s the human’s role to be grateful for any morsel of attention, not the feline’s, and who could disagree!)

Faerie Pathways Oracle will work for:

This deck will appeal to readers of all levels and all ages, especially if you enjoy working with faerie themed oracle cards. I found the depth of the artwork and the range of keywords covered in this deck to be truly impressive. So, if you’re looking for cards with specific guidance, this deck is an excellent choice.

This deck might not appeal to:

If you’re looking for a simpler deck with minimalist images and fewer cards with broader keyword meanings, you might be overwhelmed with the artwork and the number of cards in this deck. Also, the coloring of this deck is gorgeous but it’s more muted than bright, so that might be something to consider too.

Faerie Pathways Oracle in Practice

The cards are a nice weight and easy to shuffle. They’re a little bit wider than a regular tarot card but comfortable to handle. I chose the 5-card Faerie Lantern spread with positions for Spark (an awakening inspiration), Shadow (what remains hidden), Wing (guidance), Charm (a blessing), and Glow (the light ahead). The cards inspired me to take more risks (Dare), while also acknowledging that every Metamorphosis requires a bit of Courage. When the Passion and Motivation cards appeared, I felt pretty confident about the direction my intuition has been taking me lately. All in all, a really helpful reading.
