I saw the W.I.T.C.H. Woman In Total Control of Herself Tarot deck and knew I needed her in my life.
First, she arrived in a stunning box with an equally gorgeous gold pouch was the first thing I saw on opening the box. What a lovely touch! I might be new to tarot, but I have a fair few decks and I’ve never been gifted a matching pouch…
Underneath the pouch is the book. And oh, my days…The book is worth the money on its own. Sturdy, coloured-coded pages to match the Suits, and a wonderful introduction to the Deck.
The words in this book have moved me so profoundly, I cannot really explain it.
‘…She would rather die listening to her own soul than live in a bondage system demanding her mediocrity and compliance…’
That sentence changed me. Before I’d even taken the cellophane off the Deck, Sullins & Toball changed my life.
It feels quite dramatic to say that, but hey ho…That’s Tarot for you.
The card stock of the Deck is solid, and it did take me a minute to get used to that but now I am, it’s my favourite Deck. The first card I pulled was The Hermit – which is MY card. I am The Hermit in all the best possible ways. I’m a Sagittarius Sun, Virgo Moon, and Leo Rising with a six-planet stellium in my Fifth House – yeah 👀🔮and the Hermit speaks to me in so many ways. In other decks, I haven’t really identified with the physical character in the card…but I have now.
Sullins & Toball present her as a brunette tending a fire outside her forest cabin and if that isn’t me in a nutshell, I don’t know what is. She is the dream for me and to have such a connection with one card after one shuffle tells me all I need to know about this Deck…It’s Perfect for me.
The artwork is like a dream. Each card showing a range of characters, animals, and symbols and not one of them is out of place or hard to read. They’re layered and detailed in such a way that you can’t help but getting lost in them.
Here’s something freaky…I was shuffling them the other day and something felt off and I couldn’t put my finger on it. Then I ‘remembered’ I needed something from upstairs where I found a card, the Queen of Wands, laid on my pillow…
Together, The Hermit and Queen of Wands are the ones that I turn to for that extra oomph of energy when I need it and for them both to have jumped like they have is mind blowing.
Inside the book, the author dedicates two pages to each card, and the descriptions are insightful in a way that’s more than meaningful to me as a practicing Witch.
There are two Stunning poems from the author, along with a couple of insightful spreads to use.
All in all, this is by far my favourite Deck…even though, as a Witch who lives on the Darker side of life, where Shadow work is one of my favourite things to do, there are no reverse meanings. Every word is chosen to support and empower and d’ya know what, sometimes having that option ‘taken’ away is needed.
We need to remember how to talk to ourselves and a Deck without any negatives is a great place to start.
