Deck Review: Shamanic Oracle

The vibrant, bright artwork of Peruvian artist Luis Tamani uses nature as a source of inspiration in The Shamanic Oracle. The deck invites you to be inspired by Nature’s wisdom as a way of understanding how the cycles of nature connect us with something larger than ourselves, and to reflect on our own understanding of our place in the world. Luis Tamani was born on the banks of the Ucayali River in the Amazon, and grew up with a deep bond to and respect for the natural world. His art is inspired by the colours, textures and highlights from Nature’s beauty. Co-author Magali Tamani, having visited the Amazon from France, reconnected to the power of nature and its authentic essence.

The Shamanic Oracle is a 36 card deck of vibrant artworks. The cards are glossy, with a lovely silver gilded edging. They are standard oracle size at approximately 130mm x 90mm and the card stock is easy to shuffle. The 136 page guidebook gives guidance to connect intuitively to the artwork in order to access subtle energies and wisdom, while also providing several spread ideas. The guidebook offers card meanings and deeper insights into each painting, and the inspiration Luis has drawn from the medicine of the earth.

I really like the way the Shamanic Oracle is divided into four elemental groups – Root Protectors of the earth, Wind Arcana of the air, Spirit Messengers of fire and Wisdom Watchers of water. The cards incorporate the elemental glyph, card title and an affirmation on each, with four different card back styles to denote the element.

I tried the suggested elemental spread from the guidebook, and separated the deck into the elements to seek guidance on each area they represent  – stability and materiality, communication and reflection, action and creativity, and emotional depth and intuition.

The Root Protectors offer me protection in the form of a gorgeous cheetah inviting me to co-create with the force of the earth, and focus my attention.

The Wind Arcana offer me confidence to expand reality beyond limitation, and honour the beauty within and connection to my inner child.

The Spirit Messengers offer me the opportunity to let go, and operate within the dance of expansion and contraction with stillness.

The Wisdom Watchers offer me compassion, the purest manifestation of love.

The guidebook contains a far deeper dive into each card for your reflection and contemplation, how to integrate each card and connect to the medicine of the earth. Use the Shamanic Oracle with your altar to bring the vibrant colours of the Amazon, for deep healing, drawing on the wisdom of nature, or in combination with your Tarot deck.
