I’m a tarot reader who loves stones so when asked to review the Crystal message cards I was keen to do so. Before receiving the deck I took a look at it online and noted that it wasn’t the type I’d normally buy, as I tend to go for colourful artwork and ornate boxes.

The deck arrived sealed in polythene and the box opens nicely via a top lid, I dislike boxes that open with a flap as they soon become worn and tatty looking.

The backs of the cards are dusty lilac in colour with a very simple design on them, they aren’t the most attractive backs and I’m not sure really if they suit the theme of the deck. There isn’t a guidebook, I do however find a card with a short description on how to use them together with a brief history of the author.

It’s nice to know that this deck’s creator has had a lifelong connection to stones. Valencia Chan isn’t a name I’ve come across before but I’ve now learned that she’s an experienced crystal divination reader and teacher who has practised the arts from within her own business.

I can see online that she has produced another crystal-themed deck entitled Crystal Wisdom cards and in addition some very attractive tarot journals. Further internet exploration reveals that the author has an online shop called Angel Light Store and a youtube channel.

There are so many decks out there that have been created as a passing fancy or for a certain market so it’s wonderful to read about the skill and knowledge of this author and to realise that these cards are a consolidation of all the experience she has gained.

I like to think that every deck radiates some of the energies of its creator and I feel very reassured that my Crystal Message deck will be an enlightened and learned friend to me.

The cardstock is of average quality I’ve seen better and I’ve also seen worse, I don’t think this is an expensive deck at around £20 so it’s probably what I would expect for the money paid.

The cards themselves show photos of crystals with each depicting a different one. There is a description of each stone, an affirmation at the bottom and under the name of the stone is a word or two summarising the theme of the card. I like the simplicity of this deck and the messages seem to pop out instantly — sometimes it’s nice not to have to go wading into leaflets and books trying to decipher meanings.

You can pick a single card for the day or use them for an oracle reading, although my day was almost over I decided on the former. The cards were a nice size and easy to shuffle.

I got Pink Opal which resonated with me instantly. Pink is my favourite colour which for me strengthened its message entitled Reconciliation. This deck has quickly laid to rest a doubt I had in my mind about a situation recently.

With many Oracle decks the guidance starts and ends with the card but if like me you have a collection of stones you can pick out the stone in your message and work with it either by meditation or perhaps on a crystal board.
I think the Crystal message deck has another great use as a reference tool as the photos are very clear.

If you are starting with stones then purchasing these cards instead of a reference book would give you a great introduction to them. You don’t need any special skill or knowledge to read these cards and as such, they would be suitable for anyone.

As I put the box away I notice that each side of the lid has a different stone pictured, I missed this on opening it and I’ve warmed to the deck just a little more. It isn’t the type of deck I’d usually buy I have already started but I have a feeling it will be used again very soon.
