This month, we get to meet Darlinda, TABI’s membership coordinator. Here’s what she has to share with us:
My first interest in Tarot was way back in 1986; my best friend and I decided we would head off to Bath and buy our first decks from a book shop (life before Amazon). Not much to choose from back then, in fact they only had one deck and book set, so we both purchased a set of The Prediction Tarot. I found it hard going as the pips were just that, the six of swords simply depicted six swords. I needed in-depth pictures to jog my memory, so they disappeared into a drawer and rarely made an appearance.
Fast forward to 2007, and the same friend had a Tarot Party, so my interest was aroused once again. This time, technology had taken a leap so internet surfing I went. I wasn’t sure what I was looking for until I found it. The Tarot of Dreams by Ciro Marchetti just jumped off the screen at me. Especially the High Priestess, which is the card I have chosen to go with this editorial and is also my avatar on the Forum. The deck was purchased, it was a limited edition, and winging its way from the States. However, this posed a problem: I couldn’t wait that long. Amazon came to my rescue in the meantime and I also purchased The Gilded Tarot (another deck from Ciro) which arrived in days, and I was hooked. I googled and came across TABI, paid my membership and have been here ever since.
I immediately signed up for the TABI training which I completed and passed, and then went on to become an Endorsed Reader with the wonderful Aeon being my mentor. In November 2009 I decided to take the role of Membership Coordinator and have been doing it ever since.
I had the pleasure of meeting Ciro in person at our TABI conference in Birmingham in 2010. I also met the wonderful Barbara Moore, author of the companion book to The Mystic Dreamer, another of my favourite decks, book now personally signed and treasured. My last claim to fame was putting up Elizabeth Hazel: she arrived a day earlier than our conference in 2008 at The Webbington and had no accommodation, so spent the night with us. In thanks for this, she did my astrology birth chart, which is another treasured artefact.
Unfortunately real life gets in the way of my own personal use of Tarot; one day when I either win big on the lottery or retire (whichever comes first) I hope to pursue this hobby once again.
