Hello everyone,
So, I thought I would give you some authentic insight into where I do my readings and how I prepare for them.
Would it surprise you to know that I have no designated sacred space nor a specific set ritual? In any case, I will share how I get into my zone for doing a reading.
Most of the time, I receive a written request, which I will sit with and contemplate before deciding what deck to use. This usually “feels” right, although sometimes I surprise myself with a deck that is already right next to me.
Where exactly do I draw the cards? Well, that depends on where I am or my mood. Occasionally I will get comfy in the kitchen, sat at the table where you see me on the Zoom socials, other times, in our family living room where the settee is way more comfortable, or I sit on the floor. So, as far as it goes, I plonk myself down wherever I am in that moment 🤭
Would there be a reason I choose one over the other? Well, yes, the living room is north facing so I must admit, who doesn’t like the winter sun that pours through the kitchen window? Yet lamplight is just as adequate.
Now, to how I draw the cards! Have you ever seen me close my eyes on a Zoom live when we draw for a member question? I call it my “Psammead” moment, (think Five Children and It). I close my eyes, take a breath, whilst thinking “a card for [querent’s name] please and thank you”. I don’t always do this on Zoom but if you were to have a one-to-one video session then you may have already spotted this 😆.
If I am working with a client face to face, things do become a little different. I do use incense as I feel it is inviting and comforting especially if they don’t know what to expect. It might sound cliche, perhaps, although the ambience does matter when the querent needs to feel safe in unfamiliar surroundings.
Also, I never have strangers come into my home! But before inviting someone over I make sure to have a pen and paper, a choice of hot or cold beverages, and some tissues to hand, as who knows what emotions can be stirred, as the cards always know what needs to be heard. I never profess to be a medium or psychic, yet the words I speak may be those that can have a deeply personal meaning, therefore I like to be prepared.
Next, when sat with the client, I shuffle the cards, whilst closing my eyes, and think “a card for …… please and thank you.” To whom am I directing this request? To my own spirit guides, as I do believe they are listening, but I always take client confidentiality into consideration.
When the mood takes me and the weather is nice, I will venture down to the lakeside. I am very blessed to be in a place where all of nature surrounds me. There is no ritual here, I just find a bench and take out the cards. Am I worried about being seen in public where I live? Not at all! I’m no longer a closet reader, but that’s another story….
I hope I have conveyed that, for me, a tarot reading can be in any place, in any instant, planned or without a particular way of being done. There is absolutely no right or wrong way, only the way that you want to do it.
