I’m Vivianne – although many know me better as ribbitcat – and I’m currently co-Chair of TABI along with my good friend Alison Cross.
I don’t remember how I got my first deck – I didn’t buy it; it just was there, somehow, around 1990. It was a Fournier Marseilles ….no ! come back ! Don’t be frightened, I’m not one of those dry and dusty Tarot purists, I promise. In fact, I built up quite a large collection of all sorts of decks, which now belongs to the TABI Library.
I have retained a small collection, and because I have learned to be discriminating, I have managed to keep its increase very gradual and slow, despite all cajolery and blandishments.
I am a founder member of TABI, and was heavily involved with developing and tutoring the free beginner’s course, as well as the Endorsement process and mentoring system. My first stint as Chair saw my team and I successfully deliver TABI’s first ever Conference in 2005.
The amount of time I have dedicated to TABI has waxed and waned over the years, but my commitment has always remained unchanged: the organization and what it stands for is very dear to me, and I feel passionately about it. I have made some very good friends, and have enemies to match. I have turned some enemies into friends, even.
I have really enjoyed working in partnership with Alison – she is a permanent reminder that genuinely lovely, good-hearted people exist, and she does a great job of smoothing my rare occasional frequent jagged and impatient edges. (I am so clever I even found the relevant tarot card – with her greyhound Nero in it).
I’m looking forward to continuing that through next year – you can read our Plan for World Dominion in our report for the 2014 AGM on the forum.
As we are both welded to the interwebz almost 24/7 (you can find us on the TABI Facebook page) we are quick to respond to anything that comes up, from purely tarot-related queries, to admin and TABI information. If we don’t know the answer, we know someone who does – probably one of our fellow Panel members, or perhaps one of the many expert members who populate our ranks.
I read professionally through my website, Kismet’s Companion, and I maintain a blog which covers tarot, crafting, random musings and the occasional family tale – feel free to come visit.
