Annie was brimming with excitement.

After EIGHTEEN years of waiting, the day was finally here. Okay, not eighteen. Maybe more like six. But still!! She was finally off to university!!

Despite her mother’s pointed hints about attending a university in her hometown, Annie remained determined to go away. Not to the other end of the country mind you. Just far enough that they couldn’t drop in to check on her. Four hours, give or take a sandwich. Far enough.

The miles flew by as Annie dreamed of new friends and parties and travelling and fun and learning.. ok not so much the learning, but definitely the rest and before she knew it, they were pulling into the street in front of her hall.

Her father turned to her. “Ready?”

Annie stepped out of the car and stared up at the building. A strange emotion crept in to the centre of her being, and all of a sudden she wasn’t quite so sure about all of it.

Pins and needles? No, not quite so prickly. Butterflies? Maybe.

With a sigh, she turned back to the car, grabbing a basket. Hefting it into her arms, she used her hip to slam the door into place, grinning when it met the body of the car with a resounding thump.

“Impressive. I’m not sure I could have managed that move with that much style.” The voice had come from right behind her.

She whirled, nearly dropping her basket. “Um.. thanks.. I think? I have years of experience with slamming doors.”

The voice had brown eyes, brown hair and a cheeky grin.

She blushed. “Uh… i think that came out wrong, but you know what i mean.”

“Fresher?”

Annie winced. “That obvious?”

“Kinda. This being halls and all. Unless you were helping your boyfriend move in…?”

“Nope, no boyfriend. Just me.”

“Well then, ‘Just Me’, perhaps I will see you soon.”
