WRITTEN BY: Emma Sunerton-Burl
Continuing her series, Emma Sunerton-Burl looks into the cards of The Sacred Circle Tarot, by Anna Franklin and Paul Mason, published by Llewellyn:
I look at the card and see that there is a hawk overhead taking an overview and it appears that the Page is about to do something but is just taking stock before he does.
I walk into the card.
The air is calm and warm there is a stillness and peacefulness – no hurry or rush. The Page is standing before me and welcomes me into the card and asks me to sit beside him while he waits for the right moment to act.
I feel still and sit and take in the scenery around me. It seems that there are mountains and hills all around and that this is a resting place before the next journey ahead. The Page says: “We wait here to gather our thoughts to get clear where it is we want to go to next. Take in the journey and smell the roses. The peacefulness here will rejuvenate us so we can carry on. Also our thoughts will show us the way as we do not push them for answers or direction but allow the way to unfold before us. Consolidating the journey that has been, and resting.”
I sit and I can see he is dressed in yellow and I know that he is full of self confidence – the quiet sort that needs no large demonstrations and also his purple robe suggests a self possession that is unusual to me. He is very in tune with his intuition and inner spiritual self and it guides and informs him in his ways. He draws upon what he knows but doesn’t struggle to know it all. I have a great feeling for this man – he is very wise I feel. Yet I know he has a journey to complete and will learn much in the future – he is so calm.
“You are not how I expected you to be in this card.” I say.
“Many misinterpret me,” he replied. “for I can be forthright and forceful too, once I know my way forward. I am not gentle and yielding all the time, but this facet is my more inner self, which you see here. The forcefulness I can have comes from an inner certainty that can only be arrived at by allowing the direction to be born of a spiritual place, rather than one of intensity of thought and doing. I have put together the intellectual and the spiritual and it is a powerful team. I know I can trust both to work in harmony as neither jostles for position in my world – each has its own qualities to bring to any situation.”
“Thank you for being so open with me and talking to me without my even asking of you. You seem very giving and caring too.”
“Yes but in my own way – I do not want to rescue people but I will respond to what I know they want if it is on my path to do so. There is no need to dance around bushes of politeness and ritual, it is as it is, you want to know about me and this world – it is my path to tell you. I need not wait for you to ask for I know what it is you are asking of me without your words.”
“Presumably too, you would know when it was not what someone wanted too and respond to that – thinking that your way could be taken as pushing information onto people when they haven’t really asked for it.” I say.
“Yes you are right – I would not speak unless my spirit told me it was what was necessary for both you and I to be on our highest path.”
“I see – thank you.” I say.
“So if you represent a person, then you are forthright, honest, balanced and centred Think before you do and also take the intuitive side of yourself seriously. Someone who can be trusted and true. Perhaps too a scientist, making intuitive leaps and then backing up the hunches with physical evidence.”
“Yes indeed,” he replies, “and when I am reversed the reverse is true: Someone unbalanced and possibly all logic, cutting off their intuition. Alternatively, they may not be using logic enough – almost refusing to use common sense, as if it is a bad thing and only the intuitive is worthy. I would also be a liar and withhold my truth from people and would likely be unhappy with myself, deep down feeling that I am not worthy of life.”
“If I was representing a situation in a reading, the reversed version of me would be seeking out miracle cures and believing claims of advertising that seemed too good to be true. Not enough thought going into a decision – rushing in and ahead without asking whether it is what they want, just doing to avoid acknowledging their intellectual side as a honourable and beneficial thing.”
“Thank you that is also very clear” I say, “I am seeing clarity as one of your traits too here too.”
“Yes that would be correct.” he replies.
“I would like to talk to the bird and the mountains now as well as the daffodils so I will say goodbye for now.” I say.
“Yes indeed it was nice to meet you.” He replies, “I enjoy intellectual exchange” and he smiles… it seems odd he is pleased to meet me somehow.
I look up and see the hawk circling ahead. “What do you represent?” I ask.
“I am the overview to the situation – I can see further from up here and if you bring your energy to me I can guide you to where you need to go. Do not fear the height, you can not fall – just use the view to show you the way forward. Allow your mind to reach upwards for answers and they will come, perhaps disguised, but they will come.”
“Thank you.” I say and return to the ground. I look down to the daffodils around me.”What do you represent?” I ask. They seem to dance in the breeze chattering amongst themselves.
“We are the usefulness of speaking with others, not for others’ ideas, but for hearing your own as you speak them to another. So we represent listening too. We are new beginnings and fresh hope – whilst you rest you can formulate what you want to create next in life – and start forming a beautiful picture of your hoped-for future. We are the sign that you have this with you and are about to make action to put step onto the pathway to your dreams. We are your self confidence; your belief in your ability to go where you wish to. We guide your footsteps in self belief.”
“Thank you.” I say, “That is wonderful!”
“Mountains!” I shout up. “Oh wondrous mountains, what do you represent here with your snow and your forests? What is your message?”
“We are the landscape of your life; the ups and downs; the natural way life flows. These events happen as they may, we are here to show that the events may be timeless and unstoppable but your thought and attitude towards how you will traverse them is what makes the difference. As you contemplate how you will make the journey through your life; what you will need with you if you are to cross our snowy heights; what energy you will need if you are to climb upwards; what water and food you will need if you are to walk through our valleys in the heat of summer. It is your choice where you walk and what you decide to do to make that journey the best it can be. We are the terrain itself. we are the unchangeable security in your life. We are home to many, all of different natures and cultures – from forests to the snows, to the plains below, we are home to creatures and plants suited for that terrain and so you too can respect those around you from different homes to your own – and you can adapt to a new terrain if you prepare and chose to.”
“Thank you, oh great ones! I feel you have given me a lot here.”
I find I love this card and I feel very at home in it. It has surprised me too as I expected quite a different energy in this journey, but it has been a pleasurable surprise.
“Good bye to you all” I shout out and wave as I leave the card.
I have a lot to think over.
